BSC Chapter of Phi Eta Sigma, National Honor Society for Freshmen, Inducts 24 Students & Two Honorary Members

Bluefield State College student Laura Stevens (center) received the the 2014 John Cardwell Phi Eta Sigma Achievement Award during the recent Phi Eta Sigma induction ceremony on the BSC campus. (Bluefield)— The Bluefield State College chapter of Phi Eta Sigma, the national honor society for freshmen, inducted 24 students into the Society during a recent ceremony at the College. This achievement places these students in the top two percent of all freshmen at BSC.

Dr. Jo-Ann Robinson, Bluefield State College Vice President for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management, and Dr. Zakir Hossain, BSC Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs were inducted as honorary Phi Eta Sigma members during the ceremony.

The induction ceremony was conducted by Dr. Robinson, Chapter Advisor, and Co-Advisors Carolyn Kirby and Melissa Haye. Dr. Marsha Krotseng, BSC President, provided closing remarks.

Phi Eta Sigma inductees who are Baccalaureate Degree candidates this year were also recognized. They included: Michael Baker, James Bowling, Vlad Catlan, Scottie Dingus, Johnita Duff, Candace Flanagan, Samantha Gibson, Tara Havens, Carol Holman, Lidia Larkin, Jessica Mullins, Kayla Pennington, Michael Ratcliff, Timothy Snider, Cynthia White, Kristine Williams, Emily Wood, and Johanna Yongque.

BSC student and Phi Eta Sigma member Laura Stevens was presented the 2014 John Cardwell Phi Eta Sigma Achievement Award (a $250 book scholarship). The award is named in honor of John Cardwell, who retired in 2013 after many years of service as a BSC administrator and Phi Eta Sigma Co-Advisor.
