(Bluefield)—Fans and friends of the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference are invited to a grand opening ceremony, celebrating the official opening of the WVIAC Archives' new home at Bluefield State College, on February 1. The program begins at 1 p.m. in the BSC Archives on the second floor of the Hardway Library, and the public is encouraged to attend.

BSC stepped forward last summer to provide a new home for the WVIAC Archives, following dissolution of the West Virginia Conference after 89 years of operation. Outgoing WVIAC Commissioner Barry Blizzard and BSC President Marsha Krotseng signed an agreement by which the conference's records and artifacts were relocated to the BSC Archives.

College Archivist Jim Leedy has spent many hours organizing and cataloging the WVIAC Archives and on February 1, he will provide tours and answer questions following a brief program.

Blizzard, who served as WVIAC Commissioner since 1987, observed, "I think it's extremely important to preserve this history. Throughout the past year, with the dissolution of the conference, one of my main concerns has been that the archives not be lost. We're looking at 89 years of history—one of the premier small college conferences in America."

Dr. Krotseng added, "Bluefield State was part of the WVIAC for 58 years. It's important to honor and preserve that history for our own athletes and coaches as well as for those of the other WVIAC schools. The photographs and documents are full of special memories. Special thanks to Jim Leedy for making those memories accessible."

The WVIAC Archives grand opening precedes the Alderson-Broaddus vs. Bluefield State College basketball doubleheader, which begins at 2 p.m. in the Ned Shott Gymnasium on the BSC campus.
