Dr. Anthony Woart Appointed to Martin Luther King, Jr. State Holiday Commission

anthony woart(Bluefield)—Dr. Anthony Woart, Director of the Minority Health Institute and Professor of Sociology at Bluefield State College, has been selected to serve on the Martin Luther King, Jr. State Holiday Commission.

In announcing the appointment, West Virginia Governor Earl Ray Tomblin noted, "It is important we honor the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the principles in which he believed. I truly believe this Commission's planning, development and promotion of this holiday will help to ensure the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. continues to inspire all West Virginians.

I am extremely grateful to Governor Tomblin for my appointment to this important commission," Dr. Woart observed. "Most importantly, establishment of this commission to honor the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is a manifestation of his commitment to civil rights as championed by Dr. King."

The purpose of the Commission is to develop, promote, coordinate, approve, review and make recommendations for activities to commemorate the birthday and achievements of Dr. King. Dr. Carolyn Stuart, Executive Director of the Herbert Henderson Office of Minority Affairs has been appointed to serve as the Commission Chair.
