(Bluefield)—Bluefield State College tennis players Jacob Carey, Vishwesh Sinha, and Aziz Yuldashev have earned berths in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) national tournament, October 10-13 in Fort Myers, FL.
BSC sophomore Jacob Carey won the singles title at the ITA Division II Atlantic Region championship at Mercyhurst (PA) University, defeating four challengers along the way. Sinha and Yuldashev combined to win the doubles competition, beating teams from West Liberty University, Edinboro (PA) University, and the University of Charleston.
"Only eight players and eight doubles teams, winners at the regional level from around the country, advance to this the national championship," observed Louis Belt, BSC tennis coach. The Big Blues have won the regional championship for the past four seasons in singles play and for the past three years in doubles competition.
"I think this is quite an accomplishment for our players individually and for BSC," Belt continued. "It says a lot about how talented our players have been and how talented we have become as a program."
