The Bluefield State College Foundation’s “Outstanding Faculty Award” recipients for 2009 are Carol Cofer, Professor of Nursing, and Roger Owensby, Assistant Professor & Department Head/Mining Engineering Technology. They were recognized for their commitment to excellence during the College’s 2009 commencement exercises on May 16.
Owensby, a member of the BSC faculty for more than 30 years, provides leadership in teaching and advising a large number of students. He has served on numerous committees within the College and has taught at least one evening class nearly every semester since joining the faculty. He is also a Mine Fireman Fireboss and he was recently inducted into the West Virginia Bowling Hall of Fame.
Cofer has served the College for 28 years and has taken an active role in addressing areas of pressing need in West Virginia’s professional health care community. She served as the program director for BSC’s Associate Degree Nursing program for 11 years. She holds certification as a parish nurse and as a clinical specialist in medical surgical nursing.
Dr. Bernadette Dragich, chair of the BSC Faculty Senate, presented the awards.
