Karen Harvey, BSC Administrator, Earns National-Level Fundraising Certification

harvey_karen(Bluefield)—Bluefield State College administrator Karen Harvey is a member of the first class of fundraising professionals to earn the Certificate in Nonprofit Executive Leadership from the School of Public and Environmental Affairs and the Fund Raising School at the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University.  Harvey, the Executive Director of the Bluefield State College Foundation, was one of three individuals to complete the certification program training, consisting of four two-day seminars in Nonprofit Management, Program Evaluation, Strategic Planning and Financial Analysis.

As BSC’s Director of Institutional Advancement and Planning, Karen recently led the effort for the College’s first naming opportunity of a School, the “W. Paul Cole, Jr. School of Business” at Bluefield State College.  She earned a Master’s degree in Arts Administration from Shenandoah University and holds a Baccalaureate degree in Magazine Journalism from Ohio University.  Very active in civic and community service endeavors, Karen is President of the Bluefield, WV Rotary Club, serves as a committee chair for the Greater Bluefield Chamber of Commerce, and is a member of the Princeton-Mercer County Chamber of Commerce and Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).

The Fund Raising School, an international leader in fundraising training and professional development, and the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University, collaborated to develop and present the Certificate in Nonprofit Executive Leadership.  The Fund Raising School is the only international fundraising education program housed within a university.
