Bluefield State College - 2010 News Releases CONSOL Energy recently made a $25,000 donation in support of Bluefield State College’s mining engineering technology program. Since 1980, CONSOL has supported BSC’s mining engineering technology program on a continuing basis. Additionally, less than two months ago CONSOL Energy (NYSE:CNX) and CNX Gas, its wholly owned subsidiary, announced the establishment of the endowed CONSOL Energy Scholarship in Engineering Technology at BSC, through which CONSOL Energy will contribute $150,000 over three years to the Bluefield State College Foundation to establish the new scholarship. The first $50,000 installment in that pledge was delivered at that time.
“The support provided by CONSOL makes a very positive difference in the lives of our students,” noted Frank Hart, Dean/BSC School of Engineering Technology & Computer Science.“The mutually beneficial relationship that CONSOL and Bluefield State have developed provides excellent educational opportunities for students and a well-prepared workforce for employers,” added Karen Harvey, BSC’s Director of Institutional Advancement & Planning. ”We are very grateful for CONSOL’s support.”
Nearly 100 BSC students have benefited from CONSOL Energy’s scholarship support in the past 30 years and more than 60 BSC graduates have accepted employment with CONSOL Energy. Gerald Kowzan, CONSOL Energy manager of human resources, and Chase Elswick, a BSC alumnus and CONSOL Energy human resources coordinator, participated in the presentation of this year’s scholarship donation.
