Amy Dent and Sulayman “Saul” Njie were two of 8 McNair Scholars chosen to participate in an intensive month long Summer Research Internship at Concord University through the McNair Scholars Program. They attended a number of seminars on graduate admissions and the research process, began conducting faculty-supervised research in their major, and visited prospective graduate schools in 5 states (NC, OH, TN, VA, and WV). Over the next academic year, each Scholar is expected to complete and present his/her research. In return, the McNair Scholars Program offers Scholars an opportunity to earn academic credit for their research and a stipend of up to $2800.
The McNair Scholars Program is a federally funded TRIO Program that provides academically talented college students from disadvantaged backgrounds with access to training and resources designed to make the transition into graduate or professional school smooth and successful. Every Fall Concord’s McNair Scholars Program recruits sophomores and juniors (with at least a 2.8 cumulative GPA) from within as well as from Bluefield State College and West Virginia State University. If you’d like more information on the McNair Scholars Program, please contact the McNair Office at (304) 384-6019 or email@example.com. Applications are currently being accepted for the 2010-11 academic year!
