Bluefield State College Receives H1N1 Campus Grant Award from WV Higher Education Policy Commission

(Bluefield)—Bluefield State College has been selected to receive an H1N1 Campus Grant Award from the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission. The grant, written by Dr. Bernadette Dragich (Professor of Nursing) and Sherri Williams (Assistant Professor of Nursing) in the amount of $12,803.60 to minimize the impact of influenza-like illnesses on the health status of the BSC community.
Specifically, the grant will a) change the level of awareness and practices regarding influenza prevention, b) perform influenza screening on 200 students who visit the BSC Student Health Center with flu-like symptoms, c) reach every student in the target market with a message promoting influenza inoculation, and d) schedule two meetings with the Mercer County Health Department and immunize 250 college students.
