BSC Chapter of Phi Eta Sigma, National Honor Society for Freshmen, Inducts 19 Students & Three Honorary Members (w/photos)

Nineteen students and three employees were inducted recently into the Bluefield State College chapter of Phi Eta Sigma, the national freshman honor society.  Those present during the ceremony included (front row, left-to-right) Caitlin Terry, Ashley Marrs, Courtney Smith, Kayla Pennington, and Lidia Larkin (second row, l-to-r) BSC faculty member Dr. Frank Ball, BSC Student Support Services counselor Lisa Bennett, BSC faculty member Dr. Deborah Halsey-Hunter,  Diana Gibson, (third row, l-to-r) Kevin Brown, Cory Evans, Scott Harris, Ashlan Jones, and Ashley Kennedy.

(Bluefield)—The Bluefield State College chapter of Phi Eta Sigma, the national honor society for freshmen, inducted ­­19 students and three BSC employees into the Society during a recent ceremony at the College. This achievement places these students in the top two percent of all freshmen at Bluefield State.

Honorary Phi Eta Sigma inductees, Class of 2010, included Dr. Frank Ball (Professor of English), Dr. Debbie Halsey-Hunter (Professor of Business), and Ms. Lisa Bennett (Counselor/Student Support Services).

Part of the ceremony was recognizing the 14 Phi Eta Sigma members who are receiving bachelor’s degrees this school year.  Honor cords to be worn at graduation were presented to those who were present.

Phi Eta Sigma member Julie Weikle of Sinks Grove WV was awarded the annual Phi Eta Sigma Academic Achievement Scholarship Award, which carries a $1,000 scholarship.  She is a rising senior Elementary Education major.

The induction ceremony was conducted by Chapter Advisor John Cardwell, Vice President for Student Affairs & Enrollment, as well as Chapter co-advisors Ralph Patsel and Carolyn Kirby.  Dr. Albert Walker, BSC President, also extended congratulations to the inductees at the conclusion of the ceremony.
