(Bluefield)—A coordinated effort to promote an understanding of, and respect for, multiculturalism at Bluefield State College has received a timely expression of support. The West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission (HEPC) has announced its decision to award a $4,900 "Diversity Initiatives" grant to the College.
Dr. Sapphire Cureg, BSC's Director of Multicultural Affairs, authored and submitted the grant. The grant supports several budget components, including: "Students of the World: Speak Up Series; an "Emerging Asian American Communities in West Virginia" colloquium, and; a "Student Perceptions of Privilege, Power, and Social Justice" workshop.
"The 'Diversity for Equity Grant' will help to underwrite the planning, programming, and implementation of these exciting initiatives," Dr. Cureg noted. "I am grateful for the support of the Higher Education Policy Commission. HEPC's investment in these initiatives will cultivate a greater appreciation for diversity and multiculturalism at Bluefield State College and throughout the region."
