BSC "Trauma Update" Continuing Education Program Attracts 35 Nurses from Area Hospitals

(Bluefield)—Thirty-five nurses from area hospitals attended the recent “Trauma Update” continuing education program at Bluefield State College. Topics during the program included care of trauma patients, designation of trauma centers, unique risks in elderly patients, priority of care, evaluation of the brain-injured patient, and identification of potential organ donor patients.
Deidra Pennington, MSN, RN, Trauma Outreach Coordinator at Carilion Roanoke Hospital, was the program’s keynote speaker. She is a BSC Associate Degree Nursing Program alumna. Other speakers included Andi Wright, RN (Trauma Program Director), Amy Mays, RN, and Laura Reiter, RN (NeuroTrauma ICU Nurses).
The program was sponsored by the East River Mountain Chapter of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses.
