Bluefield)—Dr. Sapphire Cureg, Bluefield State College’s Director of Multicultural Affairs, participated in a recent study abroad site tour of Mexico. As BSC’s representative, Dr. Cureg joined a contingent of higher education professionals from West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission (HEPC) colleges and universities during the seven-day tour.
A featured event of HEPC’s Consortium for Internationalizing Higher Education, the event included opportunities to learn about the culture and educational system of Mexico, with visits to several universities, including Tecnologico de Monterrey, Universidad de Monterrey, Universidad Regiomontana, and Universidad de Guanajuato. Led by the Study Abroad Advisors at West Virginia University, the tour was subsidized with a grant from HEPC.
“We met overseas key administrators and advisors who work directly with International Student Exchange Programs,” Dr. Cureg noted. “We are now in a much better position to identify and select students who can benefit most from such an experience.”
In 2007, HEPC entered into a consortial agreement with ISEP, based in Washington, DC, to enable every West Virginia public four-year college and university to provide low-cost study abroad options to students. The agreement created access to more than 130 exchange programs in 38 countries.
