(Bluefield)—A coordinated effort to promote understanding of, and respect for, multiculturalism at Bluefield State College received a very timely expression of support recently. The West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission (HEPC) announced its decision to award a $9,000 Social Justice Initiatives grant to the College.
Dr. Sapphire Cureg, BSC’s Director of Multicultural Affairs, wrote and submitted the grant. “This “Multi-Cultural Series” grant will help to underwrite the planning, programming, and implementation of diversity, multiculturalism, social justice, and global understanding programs using lectures, workshops, dialogues, film and music so that institutional gains in the diversity agenda can be made” she said. “We are grateful for the support of the Higher Education Policy Commission, and while the process is slow, we continue to learn from each other and may know eventually what does work in a diverse and pluralistic,” she stated. “We are confident that their investment in these initiatives will cultivate a greater appreciation for diversity and multiculturalism at Bluefield State College.” Additional information regarding the activities of the BSC Office of Multicultural Affairs can be obtained by contacting Dr. Cureg by phone (304-327-4512) or by e-mail (email@example.com).
