The Endowed Brian A. Delp Service Award

The Brian A. Delp Service Award honors the memory of Brian Aaron Delp, posthumous 2002 Bluefield State College graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. While attending BSC, Brian participated in many activities including: Student Employment, Bonners Scholars, Student Government Association, Program Board, Greek Council, Cross Country, Ambassadors, Alpha Pi Omega, Habitat for Humanity, Mr. BSC 2000 and 2002, and he also served as a Medic in the West Virginia National Guard. Dr. Donald W. Caudill, Professor of Marketing and Director the Appalachian Leadership and Entrepreneurial Center, endowed this award in memory of Brian, who, as an aspiring student, completed six of his marketing courses at Bluefield State College. Dr. Caudill is quoted as saying, "I didn’t want Brian to be forgotten and I wanted Brian’s service to be recognized because service to others is what Brian was all about. This award will recognize a graduating senior who has personified the spirit of service that Brian embodied so very well."

The first Brian A. Delp Service Award was given at the 2003 Baccalaureate Commencement in the form of a plaque and a $250 scholarship. The Brian A. Delp Service Award shall be the highest honor Bluefield State College confers upon a student for outstanding community service.

The criteria for nomination of this award are as follows:

◊ Nominees must be a 2010 Bluefield State College graduating senior in a Baccalaureate Degree program.

◊ Nominees must have displayed dedicated community service involvement while as a student at Bluefield State College.

(This can include student employment, honor societies, service and social organizations, Greek organizations, etc.)

(This can include their military service, Habitat for Humanity, Red Cross volunteer, hospital volunteer, etc).

(4) Describe the nominee’s political service.

(This can include volunteering time with political affiliation groups, volunteering at voting booths, serving on any town board or committee, BSC Student Government Associations, etc).

(5) Please list any additional information you would like to say on the nominee’s behalf and attach any materials that are relevant to community service involvement.

(Attachments can include any letters of support, news clippings, awards received, etc).
